SUMMER RUNNING KICKS OFF WITH GREAT FIRST DAY!

Monday, June 8, 2015

The 2015 Cross Country season has officially begun with summer running kicking off this morning. Although it was rather warm and muggy, we had a great turnout. Over 30 cross country runners, ranging from incoming 6th graders to newly minted WHS alumni and soon-to-be college freshmen showed up! We had 24 high school runners, three eighth graders, three more incoming sixth graders, and two recent WHS graduates join us for our first day of summer running. What a way to kick off summer!

Throughout the remainder of the summer, we will continue to meet at Ty Warner Park, every day, Monday through Friday at 7 am. There is a weeklong break for the Fourth of July holiday from June 29 through July 3, as well as a week off at the end of July before the IHSA's "non-contact" period comes into force before we start official practice.

Coach Wolf will return to summer running on Thursday, June 18th. In the meantime, you can contact Coach Dunne by clicking the link.

Today, for our high school athletes, Coach Dunne handed out three sheets of paper to all present high school athletes (two of them are essentially the same thing, just differing between a mobile device and a computer).

SHEET #1: REMIND SERVICE (NEW FOR 2015!)

The first one was the new Remind service that we are using for this cross country season to send out occasional announcements and reminders. This is intended to be done mainly in the event of a (rare) cancellation of a practice or meet or for other important announcements; for example, a quick reminder to go for a run on a Sunday after a meet or to remind athletes when they should be at school for a bus departure. Coach Dunne has promised to keep the messages to a minimum.

Athletes, please sign up for the Remind service as soon as you can. Text @westmontxc to 81010 to sign up. You'll get a confirmation message that you have signed up.

Thanks to Jake, Jake from State Farm, and Ryan who have already done so. For the full instructions on how to sign up, please click this link (for athletes). There is no cost for this service.

Parents, we have a Remind service set up for you as well! The announcements/reminders that you get will be similar to athletes. We might also send you addresses to meets so that if you wish to come out to a meet, you can use the address that we send you to help get directions to meets to watch your son or daughter run.

Parents, you can text @whsxcp to 81010 to sign up. You'll get a confirmation message that you have signed up. For full instructions on how to sign up, click this link (for parents). There is no cost for this service.

SHEETS #2 and #3: RECORDING SUMMER RUNNING MILEAGE

Last summer, we kind of got away from recording our mileage. In the past, each athlete would get a sheet and record their individual mileage on that sheet and turn it in to Coach Wolf at our annual potluck dinner. We didn't do that last summer.

This summer, we want all of our runners to keep up with recording their mileage this summer. The difference this year is that we now have the training log feature on this website! Returning cross country athletes should already have an account on this website and should be able to log in and enter their mileage throughout the summer. Even more fun, we've set up a Summer Running Leaderboard dedicated for the period of June 8th through August 11th! You can check out the 2015 Summer Running Leaderboard by clicking on that link!

For instructions on how to enter your mileage on either a desktop computer or on your mobile device, click one of the two links below:

Now, start recording your summer mileage! You don't want Coach Dunne to win the summer running leaderboard, do you?! Get those miles in!

We're off to a great start for 2015! Let's keep it up all summer long and let's get ready for a GREAT 2015 season!
