This afternoon, we took part in a quadrangular meet, hosting Aurora Central Catholic, Immaculate Conception, and Nazareth Academy. Last Tuesday, it was a small dual meet between us and Timothy Christian, but this time around there were over 50 runners taking part in both races. The girls race had 54 runners, and the boys race featured 67 runners. On a warm but quickly clouding over afternoon, a dozen of our ladies and nine guys stepped up to the line to compete for the Sentinels.
Ladies Finish 3rd Behind Strong Class 2A ACC and Nazareth Teams; Defeat IC
The ladies, once again, would kick off the afternoon's events. In a race featuring 54 runners, nearly every runner improved upon their time from our season opener a week ago. Ultimately though, the ladies from Aurora Central Catholic (a Class 2A school) would take the first three spots enroute to a team victory with 24 points. Nazareth Academy another 2A school, would be right behind ACC, scoring 31 points. The Sentinels would finish third with 93 points. Immaculate Conception finished fourth with 188 points.
Imogene Asa and Brittany Eiermann ran side-by-side for much of the race and would end up finishing just eight seconds apart in 13th and 14th places, respectively. About a minute later, a pack of Westmont ladies -- Peyton Nash, Michelle Launi, Hannah Abbatacola, Lisa Niemiec, Lily Arndt, and Emilia Maslany -- would finish 21st, 22nd, 23rd, 24th, 25th, and 27th to close out the scoring for the Sentinels and secure the third place finish. Victoria Thomas finished 34th, Halle Nash 35th, Michelle Gorman 37th, and Amanda Yates (making her season debut) would finish 40th in the field of 54 runners.
The third place finish moves the ladies' record on the season to 2-2.
Men Remain Undefeated in Dual Competition With Close Win Over ACC
The boys field would feature 67 runners from the four schools competing this afternoon. The clouds continued to gather during the boys race, but the afternoon's result was a bright one for the men. In a very close race, the Sentinels would come out on top in the team standings, beating out ACC by just three points to claim top honors, winning with 34 points to ACC's 37. Immaculate Conception would finish third with 73 points, and Nazareth finished fourth with 87.
Another highlight of the boys' race was that every runner improved upon his time. Nick Dea would claim the win in the boys race with a 17:34 clocking. Teammate Anthony Alessi was just a step behind in finish second. Mitch Perrotta would then make it three Sentinels in the top four places. Tony Cordero crossed the line in ninth place. Jasper Requiron finished 19th, then Sam Asa followed in 24th, and Ryan Pleva finished 35th to round out the scoring for the Sentinels. Jake Juska and Jacob Nader finished 42nd and 52nd, respectively.
The three victories over Aurora Central Catholic, Immaculate Conception, and Nazareth move the Sentinel men's record on the season to 4-0 in dual meet competition.
