Home Meet #1 vs. TC & Rosary Recap

Tuesday, September 1 2020 - Home Meet (vs. Timothy Christian)

The Sentinel Cross Country teams kicked off their 2020 competition schedule at home on a drizzly Tuesday afternoon.

The boys team ran first as they took on Timothy Christian. Tim Rosland ran 18:15 to win the race by over a minute to lead the Sentinels. The pack of Henry O'Connor (6th), Kaleb Sica - a freshman making his Sentinel Cross Country - took 9th, Oliwier Kowalski (11th), Luke Dea (12th), Max Windisch (15th) and Gavin Greaney (16th) followed, but Timothy Christian was just too tough and deep for the Sentinels to overcome as they fell by a 21-39 margin in the team battle.

The girls team took to the course next, facing Timothy Christian as well as a deep Rosary squad. Lizzy Szynal led the way for the Sentinels, running the #4 time ever run on the current course in 19:47 and taking 2nd behind defending Class 1A State Champion Lianna Surtz (who ran 16:41 last November in Peoria). Mikayla Hickey followed in 8th place. Freshman Annikah Engstrom made her Sentinel Cross Country debut, finishing 20th, and a four-pack of Callie Devine and Grace Spezia (both freshmen making their Sentinel XC debuts) in 31st and 32nd respectively and veterans Makenzie Blaine and Evelyn Kostal taking 33rd and 34th.

Rosary, the returning 9th place team in last year's Class 1A State Final won with 19 points, and Timothy Christian just edged out our Sentinels 60-64.

Awesome job today, Sentinels! Attached are some home course PRs from today!
