This weekend, we are competing in the IHSA Cross Country State Finals in Class 1A. We will leave from Westmont on Friday morning at approximately 8:00 am. We will practice on the course Friday afternoon, have dinner in Peoria Friday night, and stay overnight. Please find below the State Final time schedule, as well as directions along with a map that you can click on to open in a new window.

 

STATE FINAL TIME SCHEDULE:

 

CLASS 1A GIRLS STATE FINAL
9:00 AM

 

CLASS 1A BOYS STATE FINAL
10:00 AM

 

CLASS 1A AWARDS CEREMONY
11:00 AM

Class 2A Girls State Final -- 11:00 AM

Class 2A Boys State Final -- 12:00 Noon

Class 3A Girls State Final -- 1:00 PM

Class 3A Boys State Final -- 2:00 PM

 

Here are the directions that Coach Dunne has taken in past years on Saturday morning to Detweiller Park.

 

1. Take Odgen Avenue (or 55th St./Maple Ave. if you don't want to cross the tracks) to I-355 South.
2. Drive on I-355 South until you see exit signs for I-55 South.
3. Exit I-355 South and merge on to I-55 South.
4. Drive on I-55 South until you reach exit 250B for I-80 West.
5. Exit I-55 South and merge on to I-80 West.
6. Drive on I-80 West until you reach exit 61 for I-180 South.
7. Exit I-80 West and merge on to I-180 South.
8. Drive on I-180 South. Stay to the right when you see signs for IL-29.
9. Continue on IL-29 until you reach Detweiller Park. It will be on your right. There will likely be officers directing traffic just outside the entrance to the park.


Parking at Detweiller Park is $10 per car. Only one person in the car needs to pay, not each person. I advise you get to Detweiller Park by 8:30 at the absolute latest as the girls race begins at 9:00 AM. In past years, I have usually arrived at the park between 7:45 and 8:00 AM and have been able to get excellent parking position which allows for a very quick exit when you are leaving. This also allows for time to explore the course before the races begin. It also helps avoid long lines at the merchandise areas if you would like to purchase some merchandise.
