Home vs. Timothy Christian

[Girls Results] [Boys Results]

Today, we kicked off our competition schedule for the 2014 season with our traditional season opening home meet against Timothy Christian. Every year since 1997, the first meet of the year has always been against Timothy Christian, occasionally with some other teams as well over the years. It's always a fun way to open start our meet schedule, and it's great for the athletes to get a chance to compete after about three weeks of hard practices.

This year, there were a few slight changes to our course. This is mainly because over the summer, there was a new fence put in on the softball field. That meant our starting line was now enclosed in what is left field. Needless to say, we couldn't have our start there anymore. So, the start is now next to the fence, roughly lined up with center field of the softball field. The next change was that the first red flag turn was moved five meters south. From there, it is business as usual through the lake.

Then, on the baseball field, we moved the flags in a few meters to have the runners on the warning track, instead of on the grass. The final change is that everybody's favorite zig-zag behind the third base side of the softball field is now gone. After running alongside the tennis court between the cage where we keep the track hurdles and the trees and making the left turn there, runners now run straight towards the backstop of the softball field. The finish line remains in the same place.

The vast majority of the course is still the same, and the end result with these changes is that the course is still three miles.

Westmont Ladies Pack it Up for 24-37 Victory

The ladies kicked off the afternoon's festivities, and we had a dozen young ladies line up on our new starting line, ready to get things rolling after three weeks of practice. "The Pack" would be the highlight of this race. Annie Carlson led the way for the ladies, finishing in second place. After a second Timothy Christian girl finished third, the Westmont ladies shut the door on Timothy Christian's 1-3 punch with an incredible pack. Eight Sentinel ladies -- Imogene Asa, Ashley Eiermann, Peyton Nash, Brittany Eiermann, Lisa Niemiec, Emilia Maslany, Michelle Launi, and Lily Arndt followed one another to take 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th, and 11th places! Hannah Abbatacola finished 13th, Victoria Thomas in 15th, and Michelle Gorman 16th. The ladies claimed a 24-37 victory over Timothy Christian and move their record to 1-0.

Westmont Men Take 4 of First 6 Places En-route to 23-32 Victory

The men were up next, and they too were ready to race after three weeks of practice. Four senior boys led the way, with Nick Dea claiming the victory. Anthony Alessi would make it a 1-2 punch, finishing second, then Mitch Perrotta followed in fourth, and Tony Cordero finished sixth. Jasper Requiron would seal the deal by finishing 10th, to claim the 23-32 victory to complete the team sweep and move the boys record to 1-0. Sam Asa followed in 13th, Ryan Pleva finished 15th, Jake Juska finished 19th, Tom Dea in 25th, and Jacob Nader in 29th.
