IHSA Releases Regional & Sectional Assignments

Friday, September 18 2015 - Bureau Valley (Storm Invitational)

This afternoon, the Illinois High School Association (IHSA) released this year's Boys and Girls Cross Country Regional and Sectional Assignments.

Once again, we will return to the Aurora Christian Regional, which will be held at Oakhurst Forest Preserve on Saturday, October 24, and the Sectional meet will be held the following Saturday -- Halloween! -- on October 31st, at Lisle's Community Park.

Advancement from Regional to Sectional:

The top seven (7) teams will advance from their regional to the Lisle Sectional. In addition, the top five (5) individual runners that are not on an advancing team will also advance to the Lisle Sectional. To earn a Regional medal, a runner must place in the top five overall at the Regional meet.

In the event of a seventh place tie between one (or more) teams, all tied teams will advance to the Lisle Sectional, regardless of sixth runner tiebreakers.

Advancement from Sectional to the IHSA State Final:

The top five (5) teams will qualify for the IHSA Class 1A State Final, to be held on Saturday, November 7, at Detweiller Park, in Peoria, Illinois. In addition, the top seven (7) runners not on an advancing team will also qualify to run in the IHSA Class 1A State Final.

If an individual runner that is not on a qualifying team finishes in the top ten overall, they will qualify for the IHSA State Final automatically, even if there are more than seven individual runners in the top ten that have already qualified ahead of that runner.

In the event of a fifth place tie between one (or more) teams, all tied teams will advance to the IHSA Class 1A State Final, regardless of sixth runner tiebreakers.

Here is a list of the teams that are assigned to the Lisle Sectional and the three corresponding Regionals:

Notes:

--A (b) - for boys - or (g) - for girls - next to the school's name indicates that they are competing in the Class 1A State Series as either only a boys or girls team. There could be several reasons for this, but I won't get into them at this time.

--An asterisk before the school's name indicates that this team is only competing with individuals and will not factor into the team scoring.

All information in the chart below was taken from the IHSA's Boys or Girls Cross Country pages.
