Checklist for The First Day of Practice

Friday, July 31 2015 - First Day of Practice

Athletes and parents:

We want to take this time to provide you with what is essentially a check list for the first day of practice. The first day of practice will be held on Wednesday, August 12th, at 8:00 am. We'll meet by the stone benches at WHS, which are right by the entrance to the athletic complex.

Athletes, you should be continuing to run on your own, or with your teammates, over the next couple weeks before practice begins! Do not let what you have built up this summer go to waste!

Here are some things that should be taken care of before an athlete can begin practice on Wednesday, August 12 as well as a couple of other pieces of information:

  • Physicals

Freshmen are REQUIRED to have a physical on file at Westmont High School before they are allowed to begin high school. This includes any athletic activities.

Sophomores, juniors and seniors need to have an up-to-date physical on file at Westmont High School BEFORE they are allowed to practice. For sophomores, juniors, and seniors, a sports physical will suffice in lieu of a complete physical.

Sports physicals are being offered from 5:30 to 7:00 pm on Thursday, August 6th, at Westmont High School. The cost of these sports physicals are $25. If you are scrambling to get a physical done before practice begins, this is a GREAT opportunity, and we encourage you to take advantage of it!

If you cannot go to the WHS session on Thursday, August 6, then you can go to a local Walgreens or CVS or other similar location and obtain a sports physical there. Make sure you obtain a copy to bring with you to practice on August 12th. Expect to pay between $30 and $50 for a sports physical if you select this option.

Athetes must bring a hard copy of their completed physical (or sports physical) to give to a coach at practice on Wednesday, August 12th at 8:00 am! If we do not have a physical from you in our hands on August 12th at 8:00 am, you will not be allowed to practice and we will send you home!

For instructions on how to register your athlete online, please click HERE.

Parents who have athletes who are returning to Westmont High School for their sophomore, junior or senior seasons, you do not need to register a new account. Simply log in to your account that you created last year and register your athlete for the 2015-16 school year.

If you already have an athlete attending Westmont High School and you have an incoming freshman for this year, do not register a new account. Simply add your incoming freshman to your existing account that you created last year.

If you are new to Westmont High School, you will need to create a new account and then register your athlete(s).

We strongly encourage you to register your athlete(s) for ALL sports that they plan on participating in during the upcoming school year. If you go ahead and register your athlete(s) for winter and spring sports now, it will save you time in the long run!

If you have any questions about the online registration, call the Westmont High School Athletic Office at (630)-468-8108.

  • Text alerts

New for this year, we have a service called "Remind"! Some athletes may have already used this service as part of their classes in school, but we are now utilizing this for our cross country team. This is a quick and efficient way to reach out to our athletes and parents in the event of a (rare) cancellation of practice or other important information that needs have the word spread quickly.

Be sure to sign up for these alerts so you don't miss out on important information! Parents, sign up by clicking HERE. Athletes, you can sign up HERE.

  • Tentative Team Calendar

To download our tentative team calendar from August through November, please click HERE.

Again, this is our tentative team calendar, which is of course subject to change. The meets are set in stone, those will not change barring cancellations due to inclement weather or other unexpected circumstances. Practice times may be subject to change. We will let you know via our Remind text service if a practice or meet has been changed or on a rare occasion, cancelled.

  • Shoes & Spikes

This would be the perfect time to invest in a new pair of shoes! There are many discounts on offer for runners. You can expect to spend between $60 to $90 (sometimes more) for a good pair of running shoes that will last you through the entire season of training and workouts, which ends in the first week of November.

If you continue on with track and field in the spring, you'll need to replace your shoes to prevent injuries early on in January and February.

Serious athletes may also want to invest in a pair of racing spikes for meets. These spikes can last multiple seasons.

  • PARENTS: Mandatory Parent Meeting Is Scheduled for Thursday, August 13, at 6:30 pm at Westmont High School.

Once again, the Athletic Department is asking at least one parent of an athlete(s) to attend this mandatory parent meeting. The Athletic Department will begin the meeting in the auditorium at 6:30 pm, then each sport will break off into its individual areas for individual meetings. Please mark this date on your calendar now so that you don’t miss this important meeting.
